Brothers Human demolish Nomads spinners
While an entertainment with a Cricket theme was laid on at Lord’s for the glitterati, plutocrats and some plebs a proper game of cricket was played at Richmond CC between the home club and Nomads CC. The game was scheduled as an all day game with Lunch and Tea but alas the Richmond management had failed to book a lunch. As a result a 100 over game was agreed with Tea between innings and regular drinks breaks at 17 overs. Nomads match manager and skipper Vic Kandampully originally had a formidable bowling line up of Ridley, Shah, Penny and Brunt but all four fell foul of injuries, business and domestic duties so that Seam veterans Vamsi Sukhavesi and David Morley-Clarke were recruited late in the day to complement the spinners upon whom Vic had great hopes. Vic won the toss and elected to bat first and Nomads duly posted 277-5 off 49.3 overs before declaring once Matthew Balche had completed his second Nomads ton for the season. Matthew and Alex Hall added 128 for the fifth wicket. Earlier Vic and Thierry were trapped lbw and Dhruv Peshkar hit a juicy full toss hard to midwicket. Sam Owen after some mighty blows skied one and was caught and bowled. Richmond employed nine bowlers among whom the best performers were Alex Zotov and Lavia Jain. After an excellent Tea veteran seamers Vamsi and David removed the top four for 40, taking two apiece. With the introduction of Nomads two left arm spinners further wickets were expected yet the reverse was the case as the two brothers Jamie and Ethan Human put on 188 in 30 overs. The first ten overs produced 46 runs as they rebuilt the innings, the next ten 84 runs and the last nine 58. Both batsmen benefitted from dropped catches that should have been held but in truth the bowling was poor. Ethan Human missed out on a maiden ton despite hitting five sixes. Australian Ben Middlemas continued with the punishment so Richmond won by 5 wickets in the 45th over. Quite a turn round from 40-4. Mercifully this was a much cooler day than had been the norm for many weeks previously. Despite defeat a good number of Nomads remained to take refreshment as the sun set and a trio eventually repaired to a local Chinese Restaurant to mull over the day’s events. The Richmond club includes a good number of past and present Nomads but only two played against us this day namely Duncan Ellis and Saurabh Wahi who shared Wicket Keeping duties indeed Duncan is currently the Groundsman at Richmond an onerous task with a summer devoid of rain!
