Nomads chase fails after sluggish start
Eton Ramblers won the toss and elected to bat but prospered not losing 3 wickets for a mere 33 runs. All three were bowled, one to Tom Marshall and two for Pawan Malik. Opener Clayton found a partner in Beagle and these two added 77 runs before Joe Ireland removed the opener stumped.
Ramblers batsmen found scoring difficult either side of lunch but two further stands took the score to 193 off 56.2 overs. Pawan Malik recorded the excellent figures of 4-19 off 13 overs.
Nomads’ chase started badly as Thierry Pascal fell cheaply and then Richard Lawrence got bogged down with Ramblers seam bowlers so by the time skipper Tom Marshall joined Mark Richards Nomads were 56-4 off 20 overs. Nomads required 137 off a further 20 overs.
These two upped the run rate adding 93 off 14.5 overs before Mark Richards ran himself out. Tom found a useful partner in Pawan and they added 33 off the next 5 overs. Rambler Hayes had taken some punishment over his spell but now turned the tide Ramblers’ way with two wickets, Tom Marshall (63) and Pawan Malik (14). Nomads needed 11 off the last over which proved too much for Joe Ireland and Andrew Marshall and we finished on 186 some 7 short of victory.
Ramblers catering was excellent and went well with several glasses of wine. Post match Nomads lingered over a few more beers before heading home.
