Saturday September 26th v Northwood CC
Match 72 NOMADS CC v NORTHWOOD CC Ducks Hill Road Northwood Middlesex HA6 2NP Saturday September 26th 12 noon -Time Game
Nomads bowlers fail to defend early declaration
Almost a Crombie! A generous declaration by skipper Andrew Marshall asking Northwood to score 183 off 47 overs was all too easy for Northwood who reached their target with 8.3 overs to spare for the loss of three wickets. It was a fine Autumn morning when Skipper Andy Marshall won the toss and elected to bat.Nomads had a more than decent batting line up but they struggled on a pitch of uneven bounce. Three wickets fell for 28 . Owen Marshall(52) and James Hamilton(37) then rebuilt the innings but both fell with the score on 132. Nomads needed one if not both to carry on to a big score. Alex Halls finished on 31 not out but an out of sorts Pawan was stroke less taking 26 balls to amass but 2 runs. Northwood’s bowling had been very steady and just when Nomads needed to accelerate Nigel Hussey bowled a very tidy spell, 9 overs for 15 runs. To the surprise of many Andrew declared on 182-7 off 45 overs confident his bowlers could bowl out Northwood. Nomads opening bowlers bowled mean spells at 3 an over and Northwood reached 37 after 10 overs. The first wicket to fall was by way of a fine throw from Owen Marshall,1-62. Hard as the Nomads bowlers persisted they were not helped by a good number of older fielders who fumbled and misfielded so there was never any pressure on the Northwood batsmen. Alex Hall made two good stumpings reducing Northwood to 136-3 just after the last 20 overs began. Northwood’s Chambali and Soni made the remaining runs without mishap bringing victory in the 39th over. Nomads bowlers seem to think the pitch had quietened down after tea but in truth Nomads batting should have done better and the bowling lacked venom. This was not an especially strong Northwood side there being but one 1st teamer. although seven were also Nomads(mostly tourists). Northwood provided a good Tea and post match a tasty Indian salad dish which went well with a good number of beverages.
