Nomads batting underwhelms as 6 wickets fall for 40
It was misty when most players left home but as we arrived at the ground it was another warm sunny day. It was most unfortunate that we had lost our two young tyros-Abhinav Tripathi and Kunal Checker but we still had a competent team on paper. Nilesh lost the toss and Barnes common elected to bat. Shaam bowled well and removed the top three and Nav Saeed the fourth, te dangerous Zef Sajawal, BCC were thus 4-68. BCCC then staged a major recovery with a partnership of 95 before the returning Shaam and Nav removed both. The crucial innings then came from number 8 Abdullah Inayat. The previous Sunday at number 11 he made 9 not out off 17 balls, this day he hit 46 off 28 balls being particularly savage on a returning Vamsi. As a result BCCC’s total reached.235-7 off their allotted 40 overs, a challenging total on spicy pitch. among the carnage Fayza Ahmed bowled a tidy spell 8 overs for 22 but for the most too many long hops and half volleys assisted BCCC’s batters.
After consuming a bought in TEA with an Asiatic flavour Nomads replied quite boldly but lost three wickets for just 62. However by drinks at 20 overs Nomads were 104-4 with Jonno still in and some experienced batting to come. In the event Nomads floundered, collapsing to 150 all out off 33.4 overs. Of the Nomads batters only Tom Marriage with 33 and Jonno Vernon-Powell 46 compiled substantial knocks.
A disappointing end to our UK season. In retrospect we did not help our cause by opting to give everyone a game rather than seek victory, a worthy strategy exposed by the strength of BCCC on the day
A good number of players repaired to the Coach and Horses afterwards and amidst the beers three Nomads tucked into the Sunday Roast with Yorkshire pudding!!.
