Four centuries but Nigel and Pat take Nomads to victory
There were four centuries in this match including his maiden ton by Chingford’s young Benick Van Arkel. Chingford’s other centurion Aayash Baluja was a quick one,100 retired off 48 balls and he is signed up to play some Nomads games in future. For Nomads Ben Butcher followed his sixfer at Oratory School with 2-108 off 18 overs suffering a lot of punishment from Aayash. Nomads batting centurion was late recruit Hamad Arshad who had played for Nomads some years before at Sawbridgeworth.
James had put the opposition in at Hogs and Oratory but intended to bat first this time. He lost the Toss and Steven Tthorne elected to bat. Due to a miscommunication blunder by the President Nomads found themselves missing an opening bowler so Arvind partnered James. James bowled a tidy spell but Chingford openers punished Arvind’s lobs. Ben Butcher replaced Arvind and soon took two wickets but then suffered a mauling from Aayush Baluja who raced to a century before retiring. Nomads took two wickets by way of a caught and bowled by Baz Laksuma and run out from Ben. Young Benick Van Arkle completed his maiden century and Chingford declared at 285-4 off 44.4 overs. A generous declaration as it turned out!
In reply Nomads lost wickets steadily reaching 74-4. However most fortuitously Nomads had secured as a late replacement Hamad Arshad and he with veteran Nigel Bloch put on 133 before Hamad was well caught by Steven Thorne with a juggle, 5-207. Both Nirav and Baz were soon out whereupon Pat Patel joined Nigel and these two reached the target with an unbeaten stand of 40 with overs to spare.
An enjoyable day’s cricket with fine weather and a good track rounded off with several beers. Thank you Chingford and also for the smart table attire.
