Nomads scrape home off final ball
With football on the minds of many players an early start was agreed and an 85 overs match played so as to finish in time for Nick Stevenson’s fine BBQ to be consumed before kick off.
Barnes won the toss and batted first reaching 195In 43 overs. The innings was constructed out of two partnerships the first between Alf B-Pierse and Callum Elder (80 runs) and the second of 55 by Laurie Cadle and James Hulme. The tail stumbled to 195. Tom Marshall and Tom McLeod both took three wickets while Baz and Ben took a single wicket. James and Arnav each secured a run out.
In reply Nomads top order flourished and at the half way mark of 22 overs Nomads were already 119-1. then the departure of Arnav and then Hamad the innings collapsed , 5 wickets falling for 19 runs, 4 to Ben Collins and the fifth a run out. However Ben Robinson and James Hamilton combined to produce an unbeaten stand of 26 runs with James hitting the final ball of the match for four and thus victory.
Post match Nomads and Barnes enjoyed a superb BBQ courtesy of Nick Stevenson and, of course, some watched a football match only to reappear somewhat disheartened by the experience.
